About the presenter
An Accredited Pharmacist and Researcher who has worked as a Medication Management Consultant in RACFs. The role entailed conducting Residential Medication Management Reviews and Quality Use of Medicines services to optimise prescribing for older adults and supporting RACFs with accreditation. I was awarded my PhD in 2017 and produced publications that give important insights into why high-level psychotropic medicines persist in RACF. My PhD identifies that the Organisational culture of RACFs profoundly shape the behaviours and decisions of both on-site staff and GPs and influences how psychotropic medicines are prescribed. The work will be valuable in informing the future development of health services and organisational culture in nursing homes. Currently a postdoctoral research associate at the NHMRC Cognitive Decline Partnership Centre, the University of Sydney working on research projects that aim to improve the appropriateness of medication use and clinical outcomes in older adults, including those living with dementia.
